Susan Armenta
Susan Armenta is 12-time race walking National Team Member who has represented the U.S. at the 1999 World Track & Field Championships, the 2002 and 2004 World Race walking Cup, 98’,00’ and 02’ Pan American Cup, the World University Games in 95’, and the World Junior Track & Field Championships in 92’. Susan currently holds the American record in the 50km, 40km, and 25 km distances in race walking. She is currently training to qualify for the 2008 World Race Walking Cup in Cheboksary, Russia and for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Greg Camarillo
Currently entering his fourth year in the NFL, Camarillo has played wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers. Raised in Menlo Park, he attended Stanford University, graduating with a degree in engineering. A three-time Academic All-Pac 10 honoree, he also received the Jim Reynolds Award, given to the player displaying the most courage and devotion to the game. Off the field, Camarillo co-founded “Charging Forward,” a program aimed at motivating disadvantaged youth to achieve their best in academics and athletics.

Claudio Franca
Claudio França, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, brought Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), arguably the best confidence builder to bay area communities in 1995. He hosts one of the most lauded international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in the country, “The U.S. Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament.” With more than 30 years experience teaching & competing, his students range from children to corporate CEO’s as well as many of today’s championship athletes, including UFC Champion BJ Penn. Master França lives in Santa Cruz with his wife Kim and 2 children, Tyler and Mariana.

Jeff Garcia
Jeff Garcia is an accomplished NFL Quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a four-time Pro Bowler. As a quarterback at San Jose State University he set numerous records. Jeff then spent four years in the Canadian Football League where he led the Stampeders to the Grey Cup Championship in 1998. He also set numerous records with the San Francisco 49ers including, first quarterback in franchise history to complete 300 or more passes in three consecutive seasons. Off the field he participates with Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Garcia Pass It On Foundation.

Mario Gonzalez
In 1996 Mario Gonzalez began his career at MACSA as the Director of the Futsal Programs. He developed a premier futsal league locally which has gained national recognition earning MACSA 27 National, State and Regional Championships. Due to his success many futsal clubs throughout the U.S. are emulating this style of play. His passion is for the youth that he coaches and is seen as youth coach, mentor, friend, community leader and a hero. Mario has impacted over 20,000 youth in the last ten years.

Robert Guerrero
Robert the “Ghost” Guerrero is the current 2-time IBF Featherweight Champion of the World with an impeccable record of 22 wins, 15 by KO, 1 draw and 1 loss. He is also a 3 time San Francisco Golden Gloves Champion, 2000 Jr. Olympic Gold Medal winner and holds the NABF championship belt. Robert is also a role model to children in the community and has taken the time to visit schools, community centers and special events delivering the message to excel in school and pursue a higher education.

Joe Kapp
Joe Kapp is the only player to quarterback in the NFL Super Bowl, CFL Grey Cup and NCAA Rose Bowl game. And is the last quarterback to throw seven touchdown passes in an NFL game. As Coach of the Cal Bears, earning PAC-10 Coach of the Year honors in 1982, he was the architect of what millions of fans consider the most exciting play in sports history, “The Play”. Pro football player, actor/producer, motivational speaker, businessman, Joe Kapp represents a unique Latino hero for youth and business leaders of today.

Lisa Mize
Lisa Mize is a former 1996 Olympian and head coach for the Santa Clara University softball team. A right-handed pitcher in her playing days, Mize was a member of the Puerto Rican National Team from 1989-96 and competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Collegiately, Mize played softball for Fresno State in 1993, where she led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Regional Finals. In 1991, Mize was honored as the California State Pitcher of the Year and helped her squad to the California JUCO Finals.

Ismael Perez
Ismael "Easy" Perez is one of the most accomplished local Latino soccer heroes in the Community. At San Jose State he was All American in Soccer and All American Academics. Holds records for most goals and was the leading goal scorer in the nation as a freshman and Sophomore. A member of U.S. Olympic Soccer Team and a professional for the San Jose Earthquakes from 1979-84. His passion for the development of youth soccer makes him a true Latino hero and role model to the young aspiring athletes of today.

Jim Plunkett
Jim Plunkett, Winner of the 1970 Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award as the best college player of the year. Plunkett led Stanford in 1970 to their first Rose Bowl appearance since 1952, with a victory over the favored Ohio State Buckeyes. He then joined the NFL's New England Patriots in 1971 and was named rookie of the year. In 1978 he joined the Oakland Raiders and would later lead the team to win Super Bowl XV and again three years later to win Super Bowl XVIII. He is the only Latino quarterback to win two Super Bowls. |
