Fred W. Alvarez
Alvarez built and leads the employment litigation practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. His distinguished public service career includes two Presidential appointments as U.S. EEOC Commissioner and Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment Standards, where he led nearly a quarter of the U.S. Department of Labor. His professional and Bar activities include service as President of the Bar Association of San Francisco, membership in the ABA House of Delegates, election to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, service as Conference Chair of the American Employment Law Conference and election to the American Law Institute, where he serves on the Advisory Committee on the Restatement of Employment Law. Fred graduated from Stanford University and Stanford Law School, and chairs the Latino Alumni Association of the Stanford Law School.

Christopher Arriola
Arriola was the 2006 President of the Santa Clara County Bar Association. He organized The President’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity in the Legal Profession in Silicon Valley. Arriola is the Past President of the California La Raza Lawyers Association and is currently Judicial Chair. Additionally he was named in the top 20 Lawyers Under 40 in California in 2003 by the Daily Journal Legal Newspaper and given a Bay Area Local Heroes Award by KQED-PBS in 2001. He graduated from Stanford University in '92 with Honors and Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley '95. He presently works at the Santa Clara County D.A.’s Office.

Joaquin Avila
Avila is a former voting rights attorney from Fremont, has fought numerous cases up to the California and United States Supreme Court advocating for minorities and other disenfranchised people. Additionally he challenged dozens of at-large election systems that were found to discriminate against minorities. A graduate of Harvard School of Law and former president of MALDEF (Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund), Avila won a $295,000 MacArthur “genius” grant in 1996 while fighting Propositions 187 and 209.

Darrell Cortez
Cortez is a 27 year veteran of the SJPD. One of the most rewarding parts of his job is to serve as a mentor to Latino youth. He strongly believes in volunteering and “giving back” to his community. Through his involvement with the National Latino Peace Officers’ Association, Darrell has been able to make a small impact on the lives of many children. He has also raised thousands of dollars for scholarships to college bound Latino youth. Darrell has received numerous commendations and most recently a resolution from the Santa Clara Co. Board of Supervisors for his volunteer work.

Tony Estremera
Estremera is the Directing Attorney of the Legal Aid Society of Santa Clara County. His leadership has kept the Legal Aid Society a viable institution that continues its 41 year history of fighting for the rights of a diverse clientele who otherwise do not have other means of legal representation. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of California Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law and a B.A. in history, with an emphasis on Latin America, from Santa Clara University. Mr. Estremera presently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Santa Clara Valley Water District.

Teresa Guerrero-Daley
Teresa Guerrero Daley is the Superior Court Judge for the State of California, County of Santa Clara. She is the President of the Hispanic Foundation Silicon Valley, Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees for Lincoln Law School, and a Board Member of the Child Care Coordinated Council. In San Jose, she was the first female Special Agent for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the first Independent Police Auditor and has served as Judge Pro Tem in Santa Clara County. Her honors include, "Woman of Achievement," “Portraits of Success,” “Breaking the Glass Ceiling,” and the “Unsung Hero Award.”

Judge Katherine Lucero
Judge Katherine Lucero sits as Supervising Judge in Juvenile Dependency Court where she oversees hundreds of cases involving abused and neglected children. She has also presided in Family, Criminal, and Delinquency Courts. She has been involved in innovative programs that helped improve the administration of justice in Santa Clara County, including the Family Treatment Court, Girl’s Court Initiatives, Delinquency Treatment Court and currently Dependency Treatment Court. She served over the last sixteen years on numerous committees, panels, boards, and councils in the community. She has trained other judges at national conferences on Domestic Violence and on Family Drug Courts.

Alberto Olmos
Olmos was born in San Jose, CA. After graduating from Mt. View High School, he attended Foothill College, Mission College and San Jose State University. With the San Jose Fire Department, Alberto has risen to the rank of Fire Captain, currently serving as the Department’s Public Information Officer. Alberto is currently President of Los Bomberos of Northern California, and President of the National Association of Hispanic Firefighters. Alberto, a devoted Catholic, has been married to his wife of 23 years, Norma, and enjoys spending time with his 4 children, Denise, Ana, Santos, Eduardo and his grandson Javier.

Jose Salcido
Jose Salcido, born and raised in San Jose, is one of seven children who have all succeeded in business or public service. Jose is currently a lieutenant with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He is well known in the law enforcement community and is influential not only in the political world but in helping to find good public policy solutions to community problems. Jose is a proud husband to Mary (married 27 years) and father to Declan and Conor.

Fernando Zazueta
Founding Board Chairman of the Mexican Heritage Corporation (retired), Zazueta, is a prominent local attorney, SJSU Alumni and community leader. He is a member of local and state bar associations and was state president of La Raza National Lawyers Association. He has served as Superior Court Judge Pro-Tempore and has been a member of numerous civic organizations including Rotary and PACT. He is a legal advisor for the Mexican Consulate General and was the director of the Bulldog Foundation at San Jose High School Academy.
